Fence Permit Information & Application – Residential Zone

To ensure fences are constructed safely and in accordance with local bylaws, the following regulations apply within Residential Zone

Height Restrictions
Rear & Side Yard: Maximum height of 6 feet above finished grade.

Front Yard: Fences and hedges shall not exceed a height of 3 feet within any required front yard.

Property Line

Fences being proposed within one foot but not touching a property line will need to be supported with the exact location of the property line. This may be identified by iron pins or monuments installed by a surveyor or accurate measurements from a survey.

Fences located on established site lines require a fence permit and may require a surveyor’s plan to locate the site lines to enter into an agreement prepared by a lawyer.

Property Responsibility

It is the homeowner’s responsibility to ensure the fence is constructed within their property boundaries.

Riverdale Municipality strongly recommends obtaining a property survey prior to construction.

Contact Manitoba Hydro before digging to avoid damage to underground utilities. This is a free service.

Fees
Permit Fee: $10.00 + GST

Fee can be paid via E-transfer, cheque, cash, or credit card

Failure to obtain proper permits may result in Stop Work Orders, Fines, and removal of construction.
