Due to high wildfire risk and current environmental conditions, Riverdale Municipality has issued a Total Fire Ban on all open, outdoor burning under the authority of By-law 2016-06 (Fire Prevention and Control of Wildland Fires).

All open-air burning is strictly prohibited until further notice, including:

• Burning of grass, leaves, and brush.
• Disposal of crop residue through burning.
• Any other uncontrolled outdoor fires.

Fires are only permitted If they are contained within; CSA or ULC-certified fire pits or outdoor solid fuel-burning appliances.

Even in certified appliances, residents are strongly urged to avoid all burning if wind speeds exceed 25km/hour.

Wildfire prevention is a shared responsibility. Please adhere to the following:

• Unattended Fires: Never leave any fire unattended for any duration.
• Suppression: Always have a water source or fire extinguisher immediately available.
• Extinguishment: Fully extinguish all fires before leaving the area.
• Off-Roading: Refrain from riding ATVs or dirt bikes in unauthorized areas or where long, dry grass is present.
• Legislation: Respect all provincial regulations under The Wildfires Act and MR 77/93.

This ban remains in effect until weather conditions warrant a rescission as determined by the Riverdale Fire Department Chief. Failure to comply with By-law 2016-06 may result in fines ranging from $500 to $1,000, and individuals found in contravention may be held liable for the reimbursement of firefighting costs.
